Bring the family to SOAR – Tropical Butterflies, a seasonal exhibit at South Coast Botanic Garden. Guests can walk among hundreds of tropical butterflies while learning about their life cycle and habitat. The experience begins in the Host and Nectar Garden, continues through the Emergence Chamber, and ends inside a butterfly-filled pavilion. Visitors also enjoy access to Thomas Dambo’s Trolls: A Field Study during their visit.
Along the way, attendees can observe butterflies up close and watch newly emerged butterflies begin their journey. For an added experience, guests may participate in the Butterfly Feeding Experience. Meanwhile, the garden’s pathways, plants, and educational displays create plenty of opportunities for photos and discovery. Timed entry helps keep the exhibit comfortable and enjoyable for visitors of all ages.
Now in its sixth year, SOAR has become a popular seasonal tradition on the Peninsula. The exhibit combines outdoor exploration, nature education, and family-friendly fun in a garden setting. Because it runs throughout the warmer months, many local families return each year to see the butterflies and enjoy the changing garden landscape.
